Welcome back to the Railyards’ Virtual Community Conversation!

In this recent installment we are offering you a chance to view and give us your feedback on the design concepts for the historic Central Shops District.

The Central Shops District will consist of historic and present day architecture as well as expansive public gathering spaces and feature a blend of uses that support a thriving 18-hour community. The Railyards wanted an architectural firm with the expertise and capabilities to realize this important vision. The Railyards team engaged San Francisco-based BCV Architects to develop design concepts for the adaptive reuse of the historic central shops and surrounding areas. BCV Architects is an award-winning architecture and design firm with international expertise in mixed-use, retail centers and food marketplaces.

The Railyards will embrace the central shops’ architecture and pair it with new and creative uses. The central shops will be a dynamic district highlighted by retail, restaurants, entertainment, cultural amenities, and office spaces for creative and innovative companies. The Railyards will also stay true to its transit past by maintaining its connection to the Sacramento Valley Station, which serves as the region’s transit hub. The connection between the Sacramento Valley Station and the central shops affords visitors the opportunity to explore the many amenities that the Railyards will have to offer.

Listen to BCV Architects Principal Hans Baldauf, FAIA describe the objective and vision for the Central Shops and then give us your thoughts!
