Sacramento is America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital, home to more than 40 regional farmers markets and more than 1.5 million acres of active farmland. In Sacramento, “farm-to-fork” is more than a trend or a catchphrase. It’s a way of life. And every year, the entire community comes out in September for an epic Farm-to-Fork celebration to get a taste.
From wine tasting to a free festival, an exclusive dining experience and meeting with a renowned chef, there’s no better way to celebrate the bounty of the region than one of these upcoming Farm-to-Fork events.
Legends of Wine: September 20, 2018
On September 20th, the best wines in the Sacramento region will be poured in front of the state Capitol at dusk. As the sun sets, the Tower Bridge illuminates. Local winemakers pour their best varietals alongside perfect pairings of cheese.
If this sounds like an idyllic evening, then the 2018 Legends of Wine event is for you.
Sacramento wine and food experts, taste-makers Darrell Corti and David Berkley, know a thing or two about wine. Corti is considered one of the most influential people in California wine and has been inducted into the Vintners Hall of Fame. Berkley has served as wine consultant to the White House for the Reagan, Clinton, and Bush administrations.
These local “legends of wine” select the wineries that best represent Sacramento’s wine scene, with each winery pouring two varietals. Guests can pair their tastings with cheese, breads, sausage, and desserts.
Participating wineries for the 2018 Legends of Wine event include Clarksburg, Bogle Vineyards, Michael David Winery, Jeff Runquist Wines, Terra d’Oro Winery, Twisted Rivers, Turkovich Family Wines, Fields Family Wines, and more.
Get your tickets for Legends of Wine and you can meet the winemakers that are producing some of the most talked about wines in and around the region, mingle with other oenophiles (wine lovers), and meet the iconic wine legends themselves.
Farm-to-Fork Festival: September 28-29, 2018
The 6th annual Farm-to-Fork Festival returns to Sacramento on September 28 and 29. This free event is the region’s biggest fresh food party, bringing local food, wine, and beer to the Capitol Mall.
- Taste the fresh, Farm-to-Fork flavors of Sacramento at the festival from local food trucks, grocers, growers, and vendors.
- Enjoy an incredible selection of wines and craft beers from Northern California vineyards and breweries.
- Bring the entire family to enjoy cooking demonstrations, family activities, live music, and interactive exhibits.
The Festival kicks off with a free Friday night concert on September 28 on Capitol Mall, headlined by The Wood Brothers. Enjoy a full lineup of live music all day Saturday, September 29th, while you take part in the festivities.
Fans of the Farm-to-Fork Festival will be glad to hear that this delectable event now runs two days, with an added celebration on Friday night.
“The exploding popularity of the Farm-to-Fork Festival has really demonstrated two things,” said Visit Sacramento President & CEO Mike Testa. “First, is that there is an incredible appetite in our community and beyond to learn more about the people who are growing and creating the food we eat. The second is that Sacramento has really proven itself to be an ideal host city for festivals. By adding a second day to the Farm-to-Fork Festival, we’re now hosting a full weekend that music fans and foodies locally and from across the country can come and enjoy.”
Start your weekend with the free concert and pre-party at the Farm-to-Fork Festival on Friday night and enjoy wines from Clarksburg, food trucks, bites from Raleys and Save Mart, and much, much more!

The Tower Bridge Dinner concludes the Sacramento region’s Farm-to-Fork celebration each September with a one-of-a-kind, unforgettable dining experience on the Tower Bridge.
This year, celebrity chef Jeremiah Tower has been announced as the lead chef for the Tower Bridge Dinner. Chef Tower is renown for leading the kitchen at Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse in Berkley.
“Jeremiah Tower’s menus made Chez Panisse the place that everyone wanted to go,” said Anthony Bourdain in his 2016 film Jeremiah Tower: The Last Magnificent.
Chef Tower will be joined by chefs Ed Roehr, Kathi Riley Smith, Ravin Patel, and Brad Cecchi to create the menu for the 2018 Tower Bridge Dinner.
The Tower Bridge Dinner and fundraiser takes place Sunday, September 30, 2018 on the Tower Bridge. The Bridge opens at 4:30PM for appetizers and specialty drinks, and dinner is served at 5:30PM. The family-style dinner features food and drinks from local wineries, breweries, farms, ranches, and producers.
The 2018 Tower Bridge Dinner is sold out. 2019 Tower Bridge Dinner tickets will go on sale during the summer of 2019. To take part of this exclusive and acclaimed event, subscribe to the Farm-to-Fork newsletter to be one of the first to know when next year’s tickets are available.
Meet Chef Jeremiah Tower
While tickets for the Bridge Dinner are no longer available, you still have the opportunity to meet Chef Tower. A Meet and Greet with Jeremiah Tower event is happening from 2:00PM - 4:00PM at the Kimpton Sawyer Sacramento on Sunday, September 30, 2018.
Enjoy an intimate gathering featuring food from Hawks Restaurant, Golden 1 Center, Sterling Caviar, and the Kimpton Sawyer, as well as local wines and beers. Each guest also receives a copy of Chef Tower’s autobiography.
This year’s Farm-to-Fork celebration offers plenty of ways to taste the flavors of the Sacramento region. But the fresh, locally grown food and wine showcased this month are available to you all year long. There are more than 40 farmers’ markets in the region, including the largest California Certified Farmers’ Market in the state. If you can’t make it to the Legends of Wine or Farm-to-Fork Festival, stop by a local farmers’ market and meet the farmers, ranchers, and producers who are bringing the flavors of Sacramento to your table.
